Earl of Grey
Malty and yet light and refreshing. This is the classic "Earl of Grey". Our blend of organic black teas gets its typical Earl Gray note from the natural aroma of bergamot.
Product information "Earl of Gray"
Assam, Darjeeling and Ceylon. The combination of black teas from these growing areas - refined with a touch of bergamot oil - is one of the most popular: Earl Grey. Malty Assam and noble Darjeeling. Both are from India. But couldn't be more different. One of large, fertile, humid-hot tea gardens by the river Brahmaputra. The second from higher gardens on the southern slopes of the Himalayas. Mountainous, cool and foggy. All of India covers around 20 percent of world tea production. But: The Indians also love their tea. They drink most of it themselves. Only about 20 percent is exported. It was the British who got the taste for it in the 19th century. When they set up large tea plantations so as not to be so dependent on China. The namesake of the tea mixture: a Brit. Charles Gray was British Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834. And the British influence goes even further. As a small island nation, Sri Lanka also formerly flew under the British flag. As a colony of Ceylon. The tea is still called that. But coffee, not tea. This was used in Sri Lanka until 1869. Then a fungal disease destroyed the plantations. From then on, tea was grown. The growing regions are mainly in the central highlands. There is high-grown, medium-grown and low-grown tea. Depending on the height. Another variable: the two monsoon seasons. They have different effects on the cultivation areas. The result is many unique characteristics of the different growing areas, just like with good wine. But the three teas in our "Earl of Gray" blend also have something in common: All are traditionally hand-picked. And they go well together.
